Restriction Digestion and Gel Electrophoresis of DNA
In sub-cloning biochemists take a gene from a genome and paste it into a plasmid for use in the lab. Restriction endonucleases are used to cut DNA at specific sequences. Electrophoresis is a process in which agarose or polyacrylamide gels are used to separate DNA fragments based on size. In the interactive simulation we can choose which restriction enzymes to use to cut a plasmid. We can also determine the lenght of the fragments and check how fast they run.
